In July 2017, Volvo Cars made an announcement that took many stakeholders, news outlets and consumers by surprise: the company would go ‘all electric’ by 2019.
While this was not an incorrect statement – all new cars from that date will feature electric motor – it was heavily misinterpreted and many concluded that gasoline and diesel engines would be a thing of the past, with battery electrics monopolising the product line up.
