Combustion, electrification and boosting to work in harmony, says Volvo Cars

Electric motors, turbochargers and superchargers will all be vital elements to the combustion engine of tomorrow, believes Volvo Cars. By Freddie Holmes

In July 2017, Volvo Cars made an announcement that took many stakeholders, news outlets and consumers by surprise: the company would go ‘all electric’ by 2019.

While this was not an incorrect statement – all new cars from that date will feature electric motor – it was heavily misinterpreted and many concluded that gasoline and diesel engines would be a thing of the past, with battery electrics monopolising the product line up.
