Most mainstream cars are used in generally moderate or at least fairly consistent, regular climatic conditions. For OEMs and suppliers to be sure that their products perform when temperatures drop or rise with the seasons, or when cars are used in particularly hot or cold conditions, they must put them through rigorous - even brutal - testing.
