COMMENT: Looming CV tyre rules promise EU market shake-up

In November 2012, new requirements on the ‘labelling’ of CV tyres were introduced in Europe. They effectively set tyre performance standards for the first time and their two-stage embodiment into EU type approval requirements is scheduled for 2016 and 2018. They betoken the important influence of tyres on fuel economy and CO2 emissions, vehicle noise and braking performance.
