Across most of Europe, the gross weight limit for truck combinations operating across national borders – of either articulated or drawbar form – is 40 tonnes, the weight typically being distributed over five axles. In the UK, 44 tonnes is permitted on six-axled rigs and the Netherlands has its own arcane rules allowing heavier weights.
