COMMENT: The connected car is more than a flight of fancy

In an ideal world, the connected car will be an extension of the user’s mobile device, revolutionising how we approach transport and mobility, writes Wolf Ingomar Faecks

There is a tendency to steal from popular culture when trying to anchor a concept in people’s minds. And so, artificial intelligence (AI) is rarely mentioned without a reference to films such as The Matrix or Minority Report, while futuristic transportation often calls up Blade Runner or Total Recall.

But, if facial recognition and augmented reality are slowly becoming more fact than fiction, the flying cars that nip easily between futuristic skyscrapers look set to stay firmly rooted in the realms of fantasy.
