COMMENT: Truck suppliers brace for disruption and vertical integration

E-mobility and autonomous driving bring opportunities for ZF in areas where the otherwise vertically-integrated truck and bus makers continue to turn to specialist outside suppliers, writes Alan Bunting

Widespread surprise was expressed at the departure late last year of Chief Executive Stephan Sommer, and the subsequent resignation of two other board members at ZF Friedrichshafen, even though its financial results show the business to be thriving. Under new Chief Executive Wolf-Henning Scheider, an air of bullishness prevailed at the company’s press conference ahead of the 2018 IAA truck and bus show in Hanover.
