Consumers demanding safer cars but seat belt use still an issue

Although motorways are the safest roads, a recent report by the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC) notes that up to 60% of those killed in motorway collisions in Europe were not wearing a seat belt

Despite recent progress in European road safety, around 1,900 people were killed on motorways in the EU in 2013. According to a new report by the European Transport Safety Council (ETSC), however, new safety technologies could play a major role in bringing down this figure.

Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) is already making a real difference on European roads by preventing the crash happening in the first place. The technology has been shown to reduce crashes and subsequent injuries by around 20%.
