It is often claimed that China is the world’s largest potential market for autonomous vehicles (AVs). A combination of welcoming government regulations, desires to curb rising air pollution, and changing mobility needs make the country a helpful melting pot for autonomy. Indeed, research from McKinsey suggests that by 2040, 66% of kilometres travelled in China will be done so in an AV.
