Curbing congestion is changing the role of cars in the ‘smart city’

From cycle schemes to smart rerouting apps, cities need to consider a range of solutions to tackle growing congestion concerns. By Celeste Dooley

Congestion has long been a problem for city governments but with the continued flow of people into urban centres, that problem is growing worse. Local governments have proposed several solutions, from congestion charge zones in London to total bans of fossil-fuelled cars in certain areas across Europe, with varying levels of success.
