Economic difficulties slow Norway’s 2025 EV target pathway

Electric vehicle adoption is still growing in Norway, but the country may struggle to attain its 100% new sales target by the end of 2025. By Will Girling

Statistically, Norway has been outperforming the world in terms of battery electric vehicle (BEV) penetration. In September 2024, the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV) found that electric models nationally outnumbered gasoline for the first time. On 2 January 2025, it announced that almost 90% of the 128,691 new passenger car sales recorded during the previous year were BEVs.
