Electric buses require smart, optimised networks

Transdev just made Europe’s biggest ever order of electric buses. Tanguy Bouton, International Fleet Manager, explains that battery buses require smart routes. By Xavier Boucherat

According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance, electric bus sales increased by 32% last year, and in 2019 bus-makers continue to shift units. Transdev, one of Europe’s largest public transport operators, recently placed what Volvo is calling Europe’s largest single order for electric buses. 157 vehicles will begin operating on routes in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 2020. The bus-maker’s 7900 Volvo Electric Articulated model carries 150 passengers. This follows an order placed just weeks earlier from Transdev with Ebusco, for 156 electric buses to operate in the Amsterdam region.
