Electric school bus spearheads Navistar’s EV ambitions

Navistar's Chief Executive has made some bold claims about its electrification targets. Developments in the school bus segment could prove the foundation it needs to meet them. By Megan Lampinen

As heavy truck electrification announcements continue to pour in, the sceptics are growing scarce and the rivalry is heating up. Tesla’s Chief Executive has confirmed that its electric Semi should enter production in the first half of 2020, with a revamped design that will work in North America, Europe and China. Daimler, an early mover on truck electrification, has just established a global E-Mobility Group and unveiled two new electric trucks for the US market. Navistar is also kicking up efforts as it seeks to make good on the boasts of its Chief Executive Troy Clarke.
