Electrification means truck suppliers must be holistic, and technology agnostic

Tier 1s are already optimising solutions for the zero-emissions truck. Success will require them to meet the commercial vehicle sector’s varied needs. By Xavier Boucherat

Several major truckmaker suppliers have indicated their enthusiasm for the electrified truck segment. A case in point is Cummins, which in 2017 unveiled the Aeos, an all-electric Class 7 truck concept with a range of 161km (100 miles). Built largely in-house without the help of a vehicle manufacturer, the concept grabbed the attention of the media for “beating Tesla to the punch,” and proving what was possible—at least from a technical point of view.
