EU automotive slips away from US, China gains influence

Data from the Eurostat implies that the US’ and China’s relative influence on EU automotive has started to flip. By Will Girling

The EU and China continue to debate the battery electric vehicle (BEV) import tariffs implemented in October 2024, and some commentators believe there is room for renegotiation. Easing the tension could benefit both parties, but there is little appetite in Brussels for alternative solutions like minimum pricing. However, the evolution of Europe’s automotive industry could make compromise inevitable.
