Europe debates technical feasibility of long-haul electric trucks

Tightening emissions targets mean Europe's heavy-duty fleet will need to go electric, and quickly. By Megan Lampinen

Looming carbon reduction targets under the Paris Agreement have put the pressure on all sectors of Europe's economy to clean up their emissions, including trucking. Today, heavy-duty vehicles account for 27% of road transport CO2 emissions and almost 5% of EU greenhouse gas emissions.
