Explaining the connected car: tech won’t sell if consumers don’t understand it

Technology is redefining purchasing priorities, making it more important than ever that consumers understand what is available and how it works, writes Megan Lampinen

The term ‘connected car’ has become an industry buzz word, but many consumers don’t understand what it means. Inrix recently surveyed car buyers across five key automotive markets for its Connected & Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) Consumer Survey. While 76% of respondents had heard of the connected car, over half didn’t know what it meant.

“We have introduced this terminology into the industry and we are expecting consumers to buy these things, but they don't know what they are and they don't know what benefits they deliver,” pointed out Graham Cookson, Chief Economist & Head of Research, Inrix.
