On 31 July 2023, Bloomberg reported that ExxonMobil was in talks with carmakers such as Tesla, Ford, and Volkswagen regarding the supply of lithium for electric vehicle (EV) batteries. Additional exploratory discussions have also been held with other parties, including chemical company Albermarle and battery manufacturer SK On.
