Fair access to connected car data requires balanced priorities

The EC wants to ensure proper competition by determining who will have access to valuable connected car data. An open access standard would allow multiple stakeholders access, but the devil is in the details

The rise of connectivity in vehicles is opening the door to a wave of new data, which many are calling the 'new currency'. However, it is also raising questions of ownership - who has access to this data and how can they use it? In a 'Teach-in' sponsored by PaRR (a provider of proprietary intelligence on competition, IP and trade laws), Thomas Funke, a Partner at Osborne Clarke, took a closer look at the movement towards possible compulsory open access standards in the automotive industry.
