FCA ready to expand material mix

FCA Sterling Stamping’s Manager tells Xavier Boucherat how it developed its multi-material approach, and why it has no need invest in hot stamping

On the whole, Fiat Chrysler (FCA) has remained true to steel. In 2015, the OEM revealed the 2017 Jeep Wrangler would use an aluminium hood, but this followed speculation that the SUV would follow in the footsteps of the F-150 and use an aluminium-intensive body. These rumours proved to be untrue, with FCA Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne telling reporters that the OEM had achieved sufficient weight savings whilst largely sticking with steel.
