The automotive industry is one of the petrochemical market’s biggest end-users. On average, petrochemical plastics make up 13% of the weight of a car and over 50% of the volume. As fuel efficiency targets force the automotive industry through an increasingly radical transformation, demand for lightweight plastics will pick up, creating opportunities for petrochemical producers supplying automotive manufacturers.
