On both sides of the Atlantic, regulations controlling oxides of nitrogen (NOx) exhaust pollutants from diesel trucks and buses are ahead of corresponding light-duty emissions legislation. Euro VI and EPA 2010 rules already include ISC (in-service compliance) testing, using PEMS (portable emission measuring system) equipment, of exhaust gas samples from working heavy-duty vehicles. They are taken under cold-start and light-load running conditions, when selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalysts are below optimum temperature.
