With the fifth-generation mobile network (5G) around the corner, the automotive industry is faced with the task of preparing for an unprecedented technological development. While past iterations of cellular networks have largely been based around the mobile phone, 5G is set to allow multiple industries to fully embrace the internet of things (IoT) for the first time. The automotive industry here is not only no different but stands to perhaps gain the most from the greater capacity and reliability that 5G will bring, especially as it moves closer to connected and autonomous transportation.
