Honda's first-quarter results were encouraging as internally generated improvements accounted for most of the 23% rise in group operating profit and the automobile division performed more strongly still. Not so in Q2 when the drop in operating profit not only missed consensus forecasts, but went in the opposite direction, with all the decline being attributable to the automobile division.
