Innovation in trucking diesel continues, but electrification is coming

The commercial vehicle sector has not come under the same pressure as the passenger car market since Dieselgate, but work is still required to clean up freight. By Xavier Boucherat

The impact of Dieselgate on the passenger car segment is clear, with sales in Europe notably declining, but have the revelations made any sort of impact on the commercial vehicle (CV) sector? Unlike in light vehicles, diesel enjoys global popularity when it comes to fuelling trucks and buses, and whilst electrification efforts for long-haul applications are under way, their efficacy in the real-world remains largely unproven. Could it be that diesel, the target of so much press and public ire, remains untouched in the CV world?
