Intelligent and accurate mapping opens road for autonomous driving developments

In highly automated driving, safety and comfort depend crucially on map material that is up to date, and in recent years, many automotive navigation suppliers have been working on ways to ensure these critical aspects through highly precise and up to date map data.

HERE, a leader in mapping, navigation and location services, is making high-definition (HD) mapping data of sections of public roads in four countries available to all automotive companies to support its highly automated vehicle initiatives. The supplier has been developing its HD map using its LIDAR-equipped data capture vehicles and advanced processing technologies. As part of that effort, HERE has mapped several private test tracks for automated driving projects.
