Volvo Buses is making strides in the electric bus segment. It’s ElectriCity project in Gothenberg, Sweden, has recently been awarded the European Solar Prize 2015 for being the “best example of sustainable public transport operated using renewable energy.”
But the company is also increasing its investment in safety systems. At the Busworld exhibition in Kortrijk, Belgium, Volvo’s Dynamic Steering (VDS) was unveiled – a system that can automatically detect road surfaces and driving conditions, adjusting the steering accordingly. The event also marked the global debut of the Volvo 7900 Electric, the OEMs' first mass-produced city bus powered exclusively by electricity.
Speaking to Automotive World, Håkan Agnevall, President of Volvo Buses, examined these two trends, leading the discussion to autonomous driving.
