It may come as something of a surprise to learn that Luminar Technologies, the Palo Alto, California-headquartered LiDAR specialist backed by Peter Thiel, only emerged from stealth mode in 2017. Given its youthfulness, the company has already made a considerable impact on the development of LiDAR technology.
