NXP is currently undergoing one of the most significant mergers of its kind through the US$11.8bn buyout of its US competitor Freescale. The company hopes to solidify itself as not only a market leader, but also the market leader, and by some stretch; it is aiming to be 50% larger than its closest threat.
To hit this target, the company will be leveraging mounting demand from a number of areas; primarily, the connected and autonomous car – two phrases that underlined the themes of 2016’s two most significant auto shows.
