Interview: Patrick Dean, Chief Engineer, Kenworth

Paccar's Kenworth, Peterbilt and DAF brands are jockeying for a leadership position in the development of alternative powertrain commercial vehicles. By Megan Lampinen

Paccar has been investing across a wide range of alternative powertrain technologies as it explores new approaches to clean, efficient fleets.

Last year it showed off the DAF CF Electric, LF Electric and CF Hybrid vehicles at the IAA truck show in Hannover, Germany. The company kicked off 2019 with the unveiling of the Peterbilt electric Model 579, Peterbilt electric Model 220 and Kenworth hydrogen fuel cell electric T680 trucks at CES in Vegas. Field tests of battery electric, hybrid and hydrogen fuel cell models are currently taking place with Kenworth, Peterbilt and DAF customers in Europe and North America. As Patrick Dean, Chief Engineer at Kenworth, explained in a recent interview with Automotive World, all of the Paccar truck divisions are working jointly to realise a cleaner future for transport.
