Interview: Stefan Seltz-Axmacher, Chief Executive, Starsky Robotics

Most self-driving truck developers agree that the driver will remain an important part of trucking for some time to come, but Starsky has different ideas. By Xavier Boucherat

In February 2018, Starsky Robotics, an autonomous trucking group based in San Francisco, became the first company to put a completely driverless truck on a public road. With nobody on board, the Class 8 Freightliner drove seven miles through rural Florida, assisted by a remote operator seated in an office over 80 miles away. The road was closed off, but the company is nevertheless confident the test demonstrates the potential for unmanned commercial operations.
