The rise of the connected car, and ultimately the autonomous vehicle, has become an inevitable reality for the automotive industry. However, the speed at which these developments are taking place has come under scrutiny with heightened concerns surrounding security and safety following recent accidents and fatalities.

Yet the news is unlikely to deter the continued push towards a more connected and autonomous car. On the contrary, some companies are leveraging contacts and alliances to help speed up the process, arguing that a world in which the autonomous vehicle is commonplace will be safer.
