A number of recent announcements suggest that Kumho Tyre is pursuing a two-pronged approach when it comes to product development. The supplier has said that it is working to “achieve the perfect green tyre,” reducing emissions in both the production phase and driving. It has highlighted the potential use of materials like dandelions for sustainable production, as well as an on-going aim to lower rolling resistance.
In contrast, Kumho has been developing its motorsport-inspired ultra high performance (UHP) brands. Speaking to Automotive World, Dirk Rockendorf, European Marketing Director, Kumho, discussed the nature of these two strategies. The company recently received two IF Design Awards for its Ecsta HS81 and Solus HA31 tyres. The latter is an all-season tyre developed specifically for the European market, while the Ecsta HS81 has been optimised for premium luxury passenger cars in Asian markets.
