The integration of new lightweight materials can make for complex and expensive repairs at the body shop, learns Freddie Holmes

Many OEMs have diverged from typical manufacturing norms in pursuit of major lightweighting strategies, which often sees the use of less traditional materials. Despite the benefits this can present in terms of improved fuel economy, reduced emissions and higher crash safety ratings, consumers may get a scare when it comes to lofty repair bills at the bodyshop.
