MaaS manufacturing: the Detroit Three walk their respective paths to mobility

As the industry advances into the most transformative period in its history, Ford, GM and FCA are readying themselves for greater participation in mobility services. By Xavier Boucherat

Ford made a statement of intent back in 2016 when it launched Ford Smart Mobility, a subsidiary dedicated to developing mobility services as sales of new vehicles stagnate, and urban residents abandon the notion of private ownership. The automaker has been upfront about the fact that at this point, it is a far from profitable enterprise – the segment reportedly lost roughly US$300m over the 2017 period.
