Major potential in smart logistics and intralogistics, says BMW

The OEM will put autonomous transport robots into serial operation its international supply logistics plant. By Xavier Boucherat

BMW will put autonomous transport robots to work at its supply logistics plant in Wackersdorf, Germany. A pilot programme has proven successful, and the units will be put into series operation in September. A clear example of smart logistics, the suitcase-sized machines transport part containers by rolling underneath them and carrying them to their destination. Wackersdorf serves as a vital role in BMW’s international supply chain, handling parts packaging and material flow for CKD production abroad, and also manufacturing carbon fibre sheets, seats and cockpit firing skins for plants worldwide.
