Mercedes’ Alabama investment puts union spat under spotlight

Strong sales spur production investment from Mercedes, but union troubles threaten.

Mercedes-Benz has been making steady headway in the US market, to such an extent that it is now boosting production volumes and adding new models. So far this year, the OEM's US sales are up 8.2% at 205,894 units. In August alone its sales jumped 9.4% to set a new record at 27,078 units. The US was the brand's biggest single market last year, and Mercedes is adjusting production to reflect that.
