Small cars have proved a smart move for Mercedes-Benz, and the OEM is patting itself on the back as it marks a sales milestone for the segment. Since it launched its first compact model, the A-Class, in 1997, the OEM has sold more than 4 million compact cars. The benefits of playing in the small car segment are numerous, ranging from lowering fleet emissions to pinching share from mass market rivals, and further growth is expected.
