Autonomous and connected vehicle technology has become a focal point for practically all major players in the automotive industry.
Along with most other global OEMs, Mitsubishi is developing its own offering; in October 2015 it announced the EMIRAI3 xAUTO, an automated concept car incorporating a full suite of Mitsubishi Electric technologies for ‘next-generation’ automated driving. Commercialisation of these technologies is planned from 2020 onward. The eX compact SUV concept revealed at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show also featured semi-autonomous features and active safety systems, although the specific technology has been kept under wraps.
Automotive World spoke to Stephane Thiriez, Chief Engineer, Product Strategy at Mitsubishi Motors R&D of America, to see how the push for autonomy is progressing in the short-term.
