In 2016, Schaeffler launched its OmniSteer project, a collaboration between the supplier and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), and funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. A budget of €3.4m (US$4m) was set aside for research into the concepts and prototype technologies that could become regular features on tomorrow’s roads.
