From connected vehicle infrastructure to autonomous drive guidelines and highway maintenance, the remit of the US Department of Transport is a wide one. The policies it implements affect transportation players across the spectrum, and the person guiding those policies could reshape the industry. That person, as of now, is Elaine Chao. Though Chao was selected by President Trump last November, her appointment as US Secretary of Transportation only just received official Senate approval with a vote of 93-6. Among the handful of senators voting against Chao was former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders.
