The early micromobility market has been compared to the Wild West. Regulation was little to non-existent and operators rapidly entered and exited markets, either chased out of town by disgruntled city authorities or due to more nefarious complications such as vandalism and stolen bikes. Of late, however, stakeholders on both sides have begun attempting to establish firmer foundations.

In Europe, this desire has culminated in a first of its kind partnership in the micromobility sector; an eight-company coalition whose members operate in more than 20 European countries and across 100 cities. Importantly, Micromobility for Europe (MMfE) counts two big hitters among its collaborators—Lime and Bird—in addition to representatives from Bolt, Dott, Free Now, Tier, Voi and Wind.
