19th century scientist Nikola Tesla was best known for his achievements in electrical engineering, and today, two companies are leveraging the connotations of his success in this field as branding for electric vehicles.
The first – Tesla Motors (now Tesla Inc.) – took the surname of the esteemed scientist and is positioning itself to become a leading manufacturer of electric passenger vehicles. In December 2016, a new heavy truck manufacturer by the name of Nikola Motor opted for his forename. Instead of an internal combustion engine (ICE), the company’s first venture – the Nikola One – is the first large-scale project for long-haul electric trucking.
