NHTSA granted OEMs some breathing room when it delayed the rise in penalties for CAFE violation but new legal action could reverse that, writes Megan Lampinen

Environmental groups are fighting back against the US government's decision to delay a planned rise in emission violation penalties. They argue that the move is needed to protect individuals from health risks but it could also mean higher new vehicle prices and a hefty financial hit for OEMs that fall short of tightening standards.
