No room for supervision or owners in Ford’s autonomous vision

Ford's commitment to autonomy comes with some significant caveats, writes Megan Lampinen

Ford meant it when it said it wanted to position itself at the fore of changing mobility concepts. The OEM has just committed to launching a high-volume, fully autonomous SAE level 4-capable vehicle into commercial operation by 2021. That's about the same timeframe BMW is targeting for its autonomous drive technology, but even so it still strikes many as ambitious. As Deutsche Bank Securities Analyst Rod Lache commented: "Making a statement about high volume autonomous fleets in five years seems pretty ambitious given where we are right now."
