NXP snags Freescale, forms US$40bn company

NXP has bought its US rival Freescale to form an expected US$40bn automotive semiconductor company, writes Freddie Holmes

Dutch Chip maker NXP has agreed to buy its smaller US rival Freescale and merge operations in a deal valuing the combined company at over US$40bn. NXP will pay US$11.8bn in cash and stock to expand its market share in chips for cars.
