OEMs must seize upon advances in global auto safety tech

With global road safety gaining unprecedented attention, the time is ripe for OEMs and suppliers to leverage existing technology to gain customer trust. By Anil Valsan, Global Automotive & Transportation Lead Analyst at EY

The gravity of the current status of global road safety is underlined by two statistics. The first is the number of people killed worldwide in road traffic incidents every year: 1.25 million. The second is the high proportion of low and middle income countries in which these fatalities occur: 90%, despite these countries accounting for just half of the global vehicle parc.
