OEMs must ‘take advantage of partnerships’ to ensure AV success

The future of autonomy will rely on strong partnerships within the automotive industry. Could collaboration with tech companies help OEMs bring self-driving cars to market by 2021? By Celeste Dooley

Technological advances, coupled with general industry compliance, mean autonomous vehicles (AV) could be on public roads in limited, yet meaningful numbers shortly after the turn of the decade. Various OEMs have set ambitious targets for the commercial availability of AVs, with several targeting readiness by 2021. Technological developments mean that we are closer than ever to seeing vehicles drive themselves – but bringing that technology to market in an appropriately developed regulatory framework is a different matter.
