While some companies are developing autonomous vehicle (AV) technology capable of operating safely across a spectrum of weather conditions, these applications invariably still focus on road-based journeys. According to Stuart Young, Programme Manager at the US’ Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the R&D of off-road AV technology has subsequently lagged behind.
