Peugeot on EVs: an option but not a priority

Despite its move towards innovation in the powetrain area with concept cars, the company won't be producing a bespoke electric car in the style of EVs produced by other brand such as BMW and Nissan.

Peugeot is not the only brand which has suffered as a result of the six-year slide in European car sales but at the 2014 Paris Motor show, the brand's Chief Executive Maxime Picat noted that the OEM is ‘back in the race’ and determined to emerge leaner than ever from the downturn. Following on from the news of PSA’s ‘Back in the Race’ programme which aims to get the OEM back on a sound financial footing and slash the 45 models it now produces to just 26, the company is clearly shying away from the immediate prospect of introducing EVs into its product line-up.
