Polestar a ‘halo brand for electrification’, says Volvo Cars

Volvo has launched Polestar as a separate brand, with an initial portfolio of three electrified models that will be built at a new plant in China. By Michael Nash

To date, OEMs have been tentatively dipping their toes into the electric vehicle (EV) segment as global sales remain low and consumer perception continues to be plagued by issues such as range anxiety and high upfront costs. Many companies have detailed ‘aggressive strategies’ that will start to take shape over the next five to ten years, but only one has created a separate brand with a product portfolio to consist solely of electrified models.
